Simple Tips When Sewing
Not everyone sews their own clothes anymore as retailers are the ones offering that on the market. But those who want to practice the old art of sewing something from scratch will be able to do a good job by following these simple tips.
First, when making an outfit, make sure you get the right measurements. Tailors do this when they are making a suit for a client and it isn’t that different when done at home. You may want to get some help by having someone hold the other end or jot down the specs.
You should also tell whoever you are measuring to take off their shoes because keeping them on does skew the results.
When you are measuring, make sure the person is standing against the wall. You work your way from the bottom to the top. As for the hips and bust, make sure this is taken at the fullest point so it won’t be too tight in these areas.
After getting the figures, it is time to work on the outfit. Go to fabric stores to see what they have to offer. Fabrics come in different colors and shades. Before you buy a roll, ask for fabric samples that are given for free then show them to the one you are making it for because in the end, he or she will be the one wearing it.
When you are sewing a button, one way to keep it in place is by using some scotch tape. You can even sew threw it so don’t worry about a thing. When it is done, peel it off then just throw it away.
If you are making a dress which is quite long, you should use heavy weights to hold the bottom area while you are working on the top portion. This will prove to be very useful especially when you are doing it by yourself.
After some time, the outfit that you have been working on for hours will be almost ready. The only thing to do now will be to test fit it one more time because the person you are making it for could have gained or lost weight.
Once these adjustments have been made, you can give it to them so they can show it off to the world. Who knows, what you’ve made could turn into a business.
